The American Premier League, owned and promoted by Jay Mir is a Twenty20 cricket league based in the United States of America. APL T20 league is scheduled to start on October 6, 2009. It is unsanctioned by the ICC, the sports world body, and as a result is regarded as a "rebel" league.

American Premier League recruits to earn ICC’s wrath

APL is drawing a lot of curious glances. Handicapped in terms of enthusiasm that it can draw from America, APL is solely relying on the fetishism of the country’s South Asian contingent. American Premier League, to be held in Staten Island in the month of October, will draw players from across the world.

APL understands quite well that no one in his right senses would boycott the lucrative deals and popularity quotient associated with IPL, thus it has tried to claim the ICL players in its folds. Already, ICL has scrapped the tournament for lack of resources. In such an event, ICL players are signing very fast for APL.

This is not going down very well with ICC. Already, ICC had made clear that players of the Rebel League (read ICL) would not be considered any more by them. Those who decide to join the APL will earn the wrath of ICC.

Players belonging to the Premium World team would hardly mind this. This is because most of them have done duties for ICL and are anyways not likely to draw favor of ICC anytime in future. Other than this, there are quite a few players from the past. Even they have no more ICC duties to perform. Perhaps their only loss would be black ink against their names in the ICC Hall Of Fame.

Players like Damien Martyn, Nathan Astle and others have already retired from all forms of cricket and they would not feel a lot misbalanced by ICC’s anger.
